YAKIMA

The City of Yakima, located in the Central area of the State of Washington is approximately 145 miles from Seattle, 200 miles from Spokane and 36 miles from Ellensburg. Yakima is known for a moderate climate with temperatures averaging from 20 to 37 degrees in the winter months and 58 to 90 degrees in the summer months, with an expected 300 days of sunshine (Yakima Chamber of Commerce).  The city is also known for affordable housing, (2005-2009 Median Price Residential $144,100 – US Census Bureau).

Yakima and Yakima County lead the state in agricultural production. Yakima is known to be a leader among all counties in the nation in the production of apples, hops, sweet cherries and mint. With the farm production base, Yakima County is a major food processing area.

Yakima also has a solid base in education including a number of higher education facilities. Education offers the base for the vast variety of employment opportunities.

Residents of Yakima enjoy recreation year around, the great variety of activities make life in Yakima hard to beat. Locally, Yakima offers several amateur and pro golf courses, walking and biking trails, minor league baseball, soft ball and hardball leagues, soccer leagues, skateboard parks, numerous city parks, theater, movies and much more. Within an hour of Yakima you will find lake and river fishing, river rafting, hiking, mountain climbing, water skiing, snow skiing, snowboarding and numerous other activities.
